  1. Who is Rembrandt?

Rembrandt helps inventors realize the value of their inventions. We achieve this by acquiring strong patents that hold real market promise and then pursue patent infringers and patent pirates in order to generate revenue for inventors, companies and our investors.

  2. How is Rembrandt different?
  3. We differentiate our business model through the quality of the patents that we acquire. We acquire only those patents that hold real market potential. Before a patent is accepted, it is reviewed by our executive staff headed by Rembrandt Chief Executive Officer Dr. Paul Schneck. Rembrandt accepts a small percentage of the patents it reviews.

  4. Who is Dr. Paul Schneck?
  5. Dr. Paul Schneck is an internationally accomplished scientist who has worked for the Goddard Space Institute and the National Security Agency. He holds advanced degrees in computer science and mathematics from Columbia University and New York University. Dr. Schneck is the author of countless scientific papers and a frequent speaker at conferences and scientific symposia on technology and science. He is also an inventor with two issued patents.

  6. When was Rembrandt founded?
  7. It was founded in 2004 by scientists, inventors and businesspeople with the mission of helping inventors and companies realize the value of their innovations. Rembrandt has raised $150 million to acquire patents and pursue patent piracy.

  8. Who are Rembrandt’s partners?
  9. Rembrandt works with some of the nation’s leading patent law firms.

  10. Why can’t inventors simply defend their own patents?
  11. Patent litigation is a lengthy, costly undertaking that can consume many years and hundreds of thousands of dollars in legal fees. Litigation can also open an inventor or company to retaliation through counter-suits and lost business opportunities. Most inventors and companies simply do not have the resources to undertake the long and costly process of pursuing patent piracy and infringement.

  12. Why should an inventor work with Rembrandt?
  13. Because of Rembrandt’s expertise in this market. The firm’s staff of in-house professionals and outside consultants includes scientists, inventors, financial analysts, lawyers, and researchers who are expert at identifying the validity and market value of patents and Intellectual Property (IP), and securing revenue for these inventors and companies as well as Rembrandt’s investors.

We believe deeply in the power of innovation to transform our economy, and we stand committed to acquiring the highest quality patents and putting to work our financial, scientific and legal know-how to help inventors and companies monetize their innovations.

  14. Why can’t I just turn to a contingency law firm to pursue the infringement of my patent?
  15. Rembrandt invests its own capital into retaining non-contingency legal expertise. We believe that contingency arrangements provide too great an incentive to settle for less than the true value of a patent’s worth. The quality of our patents demand a committed partner who is motivated to fully pursue patent pirates and secure revenue for inventors and innovative companies, as well as our investors.

  16. Why does Rembrandt have to acquire my patent?
  17. Under U.S. Patent law, only a patent holder can file suit against piracy. We stand in the shoes of inventors, shouldering the risk and cost of research and development as well as litigation.

  18. What is the standard for reviewing a patent?
  19. Rembrandt accepts a small percentage of those patents that we review. Our in-house staff and team of consultants include scientists, inventors, financial analysts, lawyers, and researchers. This group, with additional support that may be provided by outside counsel, assesses potential patent acquisitions with respect to validity, infringement, size of past and future damages, etc. The decision process, although based on these data, is an art and not a science.
